9 Exercises to Avoid

I started adding exercise to my daily activities. I’m very proud of myself, I was very active in school and now with work and everything else I didn’t highly prioritize exercise. We all know that exercise is important and that we all need it but it is difficult to add in sometimes. If you’ve managed your schedule and have found a way to add some physical activity to your day; Great Job!

When you’re exercising you have to keep in mind that not every exercise is effective or safe for you. Everyone needs to be informed of these nine exercises that should be avoided.

133689335 ddac14bd071. Lat Pull-down BEHIND the head- Utilizing this exercise can lead to shoulder problems if done incorrectly.

2. Military Press BEHIND the head- This can also lead to the same problems as the Lat Pull-down.

3. Upright Row- This exercise can compress the nerves in your shoulders, impringing your shoulders.

4. Lying Leg Press with Knees Bent TOO deeply- The problem with this exercise is if you bend your legs too far you can hurt your back and knees.

5. Squats on the Smith Machine- If your feet are spread too far than recommended you can make matters worse to this already risky position.

6. BAD-form on Cardio Machines- Don’t hunch over the treadmill or use a hard grip on the handrails. It can throw off your alignment, messing with your spines, shoulders and elbows.

7. Exercising only ONE part of your body- You can strengthen and tone your body but you should not ancd cannot isolate one section of your body solely.

8. Using a WEIGHT Belt- Essentially your letting your core slack off when lifting weight if you use a weight belt. You need a strong core.

9. Exercising with the WRONG Shoes- If you’re doing everything else correctly and you’re wearing the wrong shoes it won’t help. You can really injure your joints if you wear wrong shoes.

Pontiac No More…

I’m in the market for a new car and over the past few years I’ve liked what Pontiac had to offer, but being under a lease I couldn’t just trade cars.  So I’m looking now since my lease will be up in four months, and do you know what I find?  Pontiac is being “phased out.” I knew General Motors went under but I thought (like other dealerships do) that other brands under them would keep going.  No I was wrong and very much out of the loop.  Saturn has been completely shut down (I knew that) while Pontiac is being phased out and a few sold under Chevrolet.

This morning the Academy announced the men who were nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role.  While I love to watch the entire awards show, I focus all my attention on who wins Best Actor and Best Actress.  This year the nominees for Best Actor in Leading Role are: Jeff Bridges for Crazy Heart, George Clooney for Up in the Air, Colin Firth for A Single Man, Morgan Freeman for Invictus, and Jeremy Renner for The Hurt Locker. Woah that list sounded like the real thing.

761686515_75a8da2421You always see it; you probably have done it yourself.  You or your friends go out and you spend way too much on drinks.  I know that my favorite drink is pretty expensive but I found a solution.  Instead of going out, invite some friends over and hand out at your place.  You can be your own bartender and make your own drinks, for a fraction of the price!  While I’m not promoting heavy drinking, I’m promoting this delicious recipe for a Gunga Din Cocktail!

¾ oz. Gin

¼ oz. Vermouth- Dry

1 slice of a Pineapple

¼ oz. Juice- Orange

Shake all ingredients with cracked ice (preferably in a cocktail shaker) and strain into a chilled glass.  Enjoy!

Please drink responsibly, and never drink and drive!

When in Rome… Act as the Romans do

On Friday January 29, 2010 the love comedy When in Rome premieres. While this movie seems a bit predictable, I can never turn down a comedy.  I love the light-hearted commentary and the ease of a comedy.  When in Rome follows that same plot; Beth is an ambitious New Yorker completely unlucky when it comes to love.  While in Rome for a wedding she steals coins from a fountain of love and finds herself in quite a predicament for the rest of the movie.  There’s no doubt I plan on seeing this movie for a good laugh.

January always leaves me feeling like I’ve just worn out all my entertainment options.

I think the holiday season, with all it’s hustle and bustle and party hopping and event attending leaves my a little stumped for what to do next with my leisure time.

So, now I’m looking for some fresh new ideas about happenings around town. Whatcha got?

Let me know which events and fun spots you’ve visited recently.

Money Manners

I used to have this friend that each and every time we went out together, or even with a group of mutual friends, and it came time to split the bill, it always presented a sticky situation. She either only had the “exact change” and I (or the rest of the group) would have to “cover” her share of the gratuities; or she’d want to break down the bill to the last penny, rather than just simplify things for everyone and just divide it evenly amongst our group. Honestly, there was never much of a price differential in what we all ordered. It was so annoying, and she quickly became the brunt of many catty jokes. (Notice I said “friend I used to have”)

That’s not the only sticky money situation that calls for some finesse and etiquette.

Here are some others to consider.

OK Everyone – Sing Along With Me….

…. To the Tune of The 12 Days of Christmas….

On an average day of work,
My open office shared with me:
Twelve chatters chatting,
Eleven eaters eating,
Ten texters texting,
Nine ladies laughing,
Eight copiers beeping,
Seven cell phones buzzing,
Six doors a-slammin’,
Five high heels clickin’,
Four friends IM-ing,
Three thoughtless comments,
Two chatterboxes,
And a boss with endless deadlines!

I found that cute little ditty online…. so I can’t take credit for it, but it was too cute not to share.

With all the madness an open office environment brings, work still has to be done, and deadlines still have to be met.  It’s hard to not get sucked in by all the distractions.

If office distractions and noise is a problem that’s affecting your productivity, try a shot of white noise (you thought I was going to say a shot of tequila, didn’t you?).

Check out this site and plug your earphones in to it.
